EFFICIENT BREATHING

It is essential to have optimum oxygen delivery to the body, without it lactic acid will build up in the muscles and its not long until you loose strength, speed and explosiveness.

With the correct training you can strengthen your breathing muscles resulting in more stamina and keep efficient oxygen delivery to the muscles delaying the build up of lactic acid.

BREATH CONTROL

In jiujitsu it is imperative that we are able to stay as calm and focused as possible. When our breathing gets laboured and out of control the oxygen delivery to the brain is greatly diminished which is where anxiety and panic set in, focus is lost and ultimately we loose control.

By learning how to train your respiratory system you will be able to deliver oxygen efficiently to the brain which will result in the ability to stay calm and focused in order to make the correct decisions in the most extreme situations.

RECOVERY

One of the biggest ways to maximise health and sports performance is often missed and that is recovery. Most adaptions are made when the body and mind go into recovery and so it is massively important to down regulate your nervous system as soon as possible after training, this can be done easily by using the breath

RICKSON GRACIE

The great Rickson Gracie, legend of Brazilian jiujitsu said in his book BREATHE,

"Everything I have earned today was at least partially a result of breathing - my performance, my emotional control, my ability to endure. Breathing gave me all of this.

Once I started to learn the mechanics of breathing and how to apply them, my sprint became twice as long as my opponent's sprint, yet my recovery time was three to four times faster"
